Welcome to the home page of the Central Wyoming Model Railroad Association, located in the heart of the Intermountain West along the shores of the North Platte River in the beautiful city of Casper, Wyoming.
The CWMRA was organized as a club in 1987 and incorporated in 2004. Members met and held informal work sessions at various locations around town until a permanent clubhouse was leased in 1995. The limited amount of space quickly became an issue, and larger, more suitable quarters were sought. Through a very generous arrangement with the Riverside Mobile Home Park, CWMRA moved into its present building in 1999 and built the first permanent layouts in HO, N, and O scale. There are On30 tracks provided for the narrow gauge enthusiasts, as well as 3-rail AC in O scale for the Lionel crowd.
We are continual working on changing and upgrading the layouts. Much of the electrical work and track work has been completed (although small defects are constantly being corrected) and we have moved to working on scenery. The aisles are handicap-accessible and provide room for operators and spectators alike. Step stools are available around the room to insure that 'little persons' can enjoy the trains. The old DC power pack operating system has been replaced with a Digital Command and Control (DCC) system, which allows operators and engineers to follow and 'drive' their trains around the layout, and which provides more life-like prototypical speeds and movements. Plus, many DCC-equipped trains contain tiny digital speakers that produce realistic operational sounds (such as bells, whistles, horns or steam chuffs) and we can now operate trains with our “smart” phones.
The clubhouse has a conference room/lounge for meetings and work sessions, and there is an extensive reference library including books, magazines, DVDs, and VHS tapes. We have displays of railroad antiques and memorabilia as well as model railroad display items. Thanks to generous loans and donations we are constantly adding to and upgrading our displays. So relax . . . enjoy . . . stick around . . . we're glad you're here.
If you have a questions about model railroading, please stop by; visitors are always welcome. If we can't answer your question, we may know someone who can. The layouts and clubhouse are constantly changing and the hobby of model railroading is always introducing new products and methods.
